Danny, Boomer, LA Martin, HWT, EL,......... Everybody start typin, whats on your mind?

LAMartin, that APM does fit in a lunchbox easy, our new ones are small binders so if things need added or taken out, its as easy as clippin in a new page to keep them updated, so maybe keep it in mind if they give any shit about having to reprinting a new one every time there is a change.

Again Mr. Bellamy thank you for your info it has been an eye opener for some of us. It is very interesting that some company's have a "these are the rules" policy and others have a "this is how you do it" policy.

We currently use the APPA which if you ask me is a highly plagiarized version of the OSHA rule--not much thought put into it.

I prefer the take you have with the APM--do the job right --the way you were trained and every thing should work out the right way. If there is a variance from this then it should be documented and tail boarded; then proceed as you were trained.

The APM allows for the lineman to think on his feet and react to the situation using his training rather than "jumping through the hoops".

I'm sorry if you did not receive my pm on PL.com I know there was some fallout there.

Thanks again and

Work safely,

LAMartin..........

I do appreciate the Mr. Bellamy, but ya got to stop it with me, two lineman talkin, no Mr. required.

The APM is a guide, and if mistakes are made, if changes are not noted in the tailboard, disipline will follow, the foreman will be held accountable, as well as crew members.

So having a say is vary important, and JL being able to use common sense, but when things go south, you know they are gonna say, you broke rules and procedures that were put in place by both sides. I like it personally, and hope it does not change in the future.

They recently started a program that allow lineman who signed up to spend 40hrs a month to visit other yards and observe and share info and work procedures with each other, all on their dime, hotels, meals, mileage, and wages, the JLs doing it now seem to like it, so that shows me they are commited to sharing info, and allowing guys to meet other JLs and also familiarizing themselves with other areas.

Accident Prevention Mannual...............

Post  johnbellamy on Sun Feb 12, 2012 12:53 pm

It includes OSHA rules and regs as well as specific company procedures and rules.

Routine tasks, no, crew structures, definitions, grounding, MAD, holds, assurances, clearances, yes, as well as other things, all have it on their person as a quick reference if needed.

At this point it has to be approved by our Local, and it is a put together by both management and employee representitives, certain issues and rules, OSHA, that are not open for interpitation, "Shall", are included, other rules and language are discussed in great detail and agreed apon language is then put in place giving JL's as much freedom to do their work as possible, documentation is required in tailboards, and I have not yet seen it abused to take away creditability.

The more input from JL's the better, rather than some person in an office iterpitating OSHA or putting unrealistic expectations on crews.
