Mastec is a billion dollar company that does contract work for many utilities. you may have seen the episode in undercover boss where jose Mas pretends to be a new hire. The show is a feel good story about how CEO's get to see their company from an employee perspective. http://www.cbs.com/shows/undercover_boss/video/

When I first saw the show I imediatly thought of the Penelec strike a few years ago and how Mastec crossed the picket line along with Chain Electric. I remembered the numerous injuries and fatalities Mastec had along with unfair labor charges filed with the NLRB. I figured I'ld do a little digging.

I found a blog that just happened to do a little digging of there own, I hope they don't Mind my copy&paste.

http://globetecexposed.wordpress.com/

In our research of MasTec we discovered horrifying stories of Corporate Corruption, Corporate Looting and Illegal maneuvering and the icing on the cake was our discovery of MasTec’s founder and his successors terrorist activities (then called freedom fighting) along with its Mafioso Tactics and Style of settling disputes. From its acts of destroying small sub-contractors like BAT Construction; to its exploitation of companies like Custom Crushing; to the looting of Sintel in Spain; to Illegal Dumping of Hazardous Waste on Innocent People including Senior Citizens Property in Florida; it’s a ongoing saga of Corporate Greed and Intimidation. (See Older Posts Below for Details).

We discovered also that one of the favorite antics of MasTec is Bankrupting its opponents through Litigation; The weaker ones only of course; With the stronger ones like Verizon and the US Defense Establishment it goes through the litigation process but in the end simply folds and pays through its nose. (See Older Posts Below for Details). In this inhuman endeavor its in-house lawyers and those it hires to represent it are its assassins. And behind them is the compliant and equally guilty MasTec Board of Directors.

But the real Power belongs to the Mas Brothers and the Mas family. Starting with the founder of MasTec the notorious Jorge Mas Canosa, to his sons Jorge Mas and the now CEO of MasTec Jose Mas; the Mas Mobsters. The MasTec Board of Directors, their Legal Team, Globetec Construction and all their other subsidiaries dance to the Mas tune. Jose Mas being the present conductor of this smooth but horrible orchestra guides them on a path that leads to their ultimate destination – Prison.

For too long this group of thugs has evaded the arms of the law, but it is catching up with them, as it should and will. We are keeping a watch on them. And report their illegal and terrible acts here on the blog. The noose is beginning to tighten around their necks. The end is not far. Keep reading this blog for updates on their eventual and inevitable end.

Meanwhile, the latest from MasTec is the Breaking News about its acquisition of Halstead Communications. Is Halstead another MasTec Victim in the making? This is the story…

On June 16, 2011 MasTec announced its new and latest Acquisition of Halstead Communications Company. Halstead is an installer of Direct TV systems presently operating in the New York, New England, and Pennsylvania areas/markets. The MasTec Beast expands its reach again.

Amazingly MasTec disclosed the details of this acquisition unlike that of Globetec Construction LLC, public disclosure of which to the SEC we have yet to find to this day. Perhaps our exposes on the Blog have started to make a difference, and we are finally reaching people out there. Because, another pleasant surprise is that this acquisition has no EARN OUT payment clauses in the agreement for MasTec to exploit like they did with 3 Phase Line Construction (See Older Posts Below for that Story). Halstead is getting its money up front; $4 million Dollars in cold hard cash; and MasTec assumes its debt in the sum of $10.6 million Dollars. That’s it. No part payments, no shares in MasTec. Halstead is taking cash and keeping away from any association with MasTec.

Somebody out there is reading our Blog and Halstead’s previous shareholders are among them it seems because they have kept away from such MasTec antics as Earn outs and shares in MasTec as part payment. We congratulate Halstead’s previous Board for their shrewd decision. Way to go people. Read and Learn from our Blog.

Halstead’s previous Board has saved itself from becoming MasTec’s next victim due to their intelligent decision making and to reading our Blog – we are sure even though they might not admit it publicly – but what about Halstead’s employees? Are they going to be MasTec’s next Victims like the employees of Sintel? Perhaps they should read our Older Posts on this Blog and Beware the MasTec Tornado that destroys everything in its path-ask Sintel’s employees who are still protesting the loss f their jobs or the Spanish Government caught in the middle.

We will watch and keep you updated to their fate under MasTec and the Mas Mafia Mobsters.

The comment of Jose Mas, the CEO of MasTec, about this acquisition is interesting to note here, we quote his words, “Halstead is a small tuck-in acquisition” for MasTec. Both true and arrogant at the same time. A typical Mas quote. It’s true because for MasTec a Mafia Mob Front Business with its ill-gotten money $4 million Dollars in Cash and $10.6 million in debt is peanuts. Question is why then did they buy this ‘small tuck-in’ business? We will investigate and publish the real story behind this acquisition here on the Blog.

Jose Mas’s comment is arrogant because it belittles the entrepreneurs who worked their ass off to establish this ‘small tuck-in’ business. Unlike Mr. Jose Mas and his brother Jorge Mas (the Mas Mobster Brothers) who were handed everything on a silver platter (though stained with the blood and tears of innocents); Private school education - Christopher Columbus High School, University of Miami and then the keys to the Mafia Kingdom their Mobster father built.

This statement by Jose Mas is typical and insults all those entrepreneurs out there who started with nothing but change in their pockets and hard work to create that so called “Small Acquisition”. Mr. Mas sits in his twelfth floor office in the MasTec building staring at his Italian leather shoes and has the temerity to look down on those who earn an HONEST LIVING, something which he or his brother or father have never done. Terrible isn’t it. Mr. Mas you should be ashamed of yourself. But we know you won’t be. Anyway, the place you are headed – JAIL – may make you wish you earned an Honest Living too.

At least this “Small Acquisition” as you term it learned from others you have burned in the past, and our Blog, and took their payment in cash up front and did not accept an “EARN OUT” like 3 Phase Line Construction for example. They would have been in court like 3 Phase’s previous owners if they had. It was a touching acknowledgement to one of your biggest customers Direct TV, to have you expanding that relationship by this acquisition. Does this mean you will finally pay all the overtime you owe your own employees for the installation of DIRECT TV services? Of course you will because it is a federal labor law issue – just like the last federal labor law suit brought against your company for the same thing by your own employees. Hope you have not forgotten that incident and neither has your legal team of vultures. If that’s the only legal mishap you have that involves DIRECT TV, not paying wages then they are far better off than your client VERIZON who are stuck with ILLEGAL DUMPING!!!! (See Previous Post Below).

Interestingly, in these and other instances MasTec short changed its client/s and put the money in its own pocket. Where else? A typical MasTec maneuver.

For more details of this deal See; http://southflorida.citybizlist.com/6/2011/6/16/MasTec-Acquires-Halsted-Communications-Ltd.aspx

MASTEC : Statement from CEO of Custom Crushing & Materials Regarding Recent Court Decision
05/03/2011 | 11:15am

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y., May 3, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The following is a statement from Harry Blustein, III C.E.O. of Custom Crushing & Materials, Inc.:

"On April 13, 2011 the judge DENIED GlobeTec Constructions' motion to compel arbitration in Panama. GlobeTec Construction, LLC is a wholly owned subsidiary of MasTec (NYSE: MTZ). It was odd to begin with that GlobeTec Construction, LLC would claim an affiliation with GlobeTec Panama, SA since the directors of the latter including Jose Mas are reportedly domiciled in the Bahamas, not in Florida or Panama according to official incorporation documents filed in February 2010 in Panama. Specifically they claim to reside at Nassau, Bahamas," stated Harry Blustein III. "We are very pleased with this decision. This brings our case one step closer to justice," concluded Blustein.

About Custom Crushing & Materials, Inc.

Custom Crushing www.ccmcrush.com is focused on providing crushing and screening services. Custom has one of the largest portable crushing fleets in the Americas. Custom's teams and equipment are capable of crushing and screening approximately 4,000 tons per day. Custom is headquartered in New York. Post  rcdallas Wed May 16, 2012 11:20 pm

Well of course they have residence in Texas; no state income tax which caters well to all the money greedy corporate folks. Did I mention unions aren't popular in Texas?

Mastec pretty large outfit; it was about 3 years ago where I *THINK* it was their satellite group in one area that passed a vote to go IBEW. I don't know if they ever came in agreement with a contract or not. I remember seeing it in an IBEW newsletter.

MasTec’s New Terror Ploy against Innocent Civilians!

ii) Why is Verizon a Silent Party to these Crimes?

iii) Integrated Drainage Solutions convicted of felony! Mastec Let Off! Miscarriage of Justice?

iv) Where are the SEC, Florida State Authorities, FBI and the Justice Department?

v) Financial Terrorism in USA. Is anyone listening in Washington?

Our research into the illegal workings of Globetec Construction and its Parent company MasTec is an ongoing process. We have uncovered many of their illegal actions and methods and reported them here on the Blog (See Older Posts Below for Details). Among our various sources of information is our research of Public Records, Published Information and Court Proceedings involving these criminal entities (Globetec and MasTec) all over the globe. From Spain where Sintel, a profit making company was looted and bankrupted by MasTec to the 3 Phase Construction ‘Earn Out’ fiasco, and now to the legal action filed by Custom Crushing, all these cases have been searched and reported by our team.

We also read, review and look into the comments left by our readers of the Blog. Although, most of the information mentioned in the comments is already known to us, at least partially, we are extremely grateful to all our readers for their comments and for sharing their harrowing experiences with us. Considering that we are dealing with Mobsters and Thugs – Mas Mobsters- we are grateful for their courage and undauntable spirit in bringing these to our attention. One of these led us to research the records of Manatee County, Florida. Before this instance we had not had a chance to look into Manatee County’s records, although we have researched the records of most of Florida’s Counties.

We are all aware, by now, of the terror and mafia tactics used by Globetec, its parent company Mastec and its other mini-me clone companies out there. Their financial terrorism is not just limited to clients, subcontractors, vendors, competitors, etc… but has now extended to include individual property owners, People who have nothing to do with the construction industry. They just happen to be collateral damage of the corporate greed of Mastec. Some of these victims are Senior Citizens who were lied to and taken advantage of by Mastec. Note here that cheating, misleading, defrauding and manipulating a Senior Citizen is a crime according to the Laws of Florida – Senior Abuse!

Wonder Why the Florida authorities are not taking any action to protect these innocent Senior Citizens of their State? Accountability anyone?

Consider this for a moment; What would you do if someone rendered your home unsalable? What would you do if someone illegally trespassed on your property and illegally dumped HAZARDOUS materials on your property? What would you do? Interesting questions aren’t they? If this happened to you what would you do?

Well this happened to someone. Probably, more than one. Here is their true and harrowing story. Please note all the information on this subject is readily available online and is a matter of Public record. We would like to also note there are more than one property owner affected as per court documents. Please Take note, this could happen to you. Here’s what happened…

In August of 2005 Manatee County granted Verizon a non-exclusive contract to construct/extend/operate a cable telecommunication system throughout various locations within Manatee County, Florida. In order for Verizon to provide /construct these services, telecommunication lines/fiber-optic cable and infrastructure had to be put in place. Verizon hired Mastec as Contractor for this work. A portion of the work contracted to Mastec required the removal of excavated soils, bore mud/drilling mud from their workplace. This also applied to ANY subcontractor they may hire in turn for any of these tasks – a standard practice in the industry for such or similar projects.

Mastec hired Integrated Drainage Solutions, Inc. to provide subsurface drilling service, including directional drilling/boring for this project. As part of Mastec’ s Subcontract with Integrated Drainage Solutions, ‘Mastec was only responsible for approving the disposal location of the excavated soil materials, “bore mud”, “drill mud” and “waste sludge” etc’. Yet in the contract with it’s clients, Verizon it was Mastec’s responsibility to arrange for the transport and disposal of the excavated soil materials, residual “bore mud,” drilling mud” and “Waste Sludge”. Bottom line the buck stopped with Mastec for this disposal. Or did it?

Here is what actually happened. This excavated material found to be HAZARDOUS was dumped on the Hammonds Property. As court documents show in the Case of Hammonds Hazardous Waste Dumping, Integrated Drainage Solution employees began trespassing on the Hammonds vacant property and dumping thousands of gallons of liquefied excavated soils, residual “bore mud”, drilling mud” and “waste sludge” which had been extracted from the Verizon project. The Court documents further contend that the Hammonds did not give any consent for such activity on their property. Think about this for a moment. Integrated Drainage Solutions found somebody’s empty lot and just dumped hazardous waste in it. Could this happen to you? Do you own or know of anyone who owns an empty lot? Take care…

The police report dated 12/30/08 (ref. #M08241970) states that the Hammonds Property was being dumped on for two months before they could actually catch the perpetrators in the act and contacted the relevant authorities. The State of Florida charged Integrated Drainage Solutions with a felony; “unlawfully dumping litter for commercial purposes, litter which is hazardous as defined in F.S. 403.703″.

In layman’s terms what this means to be exact is that the waste dumped by Integrated Drainage Solutions on the Hammonds property contained ARSENIC in amounts that were THREE TIMES GREATER than minimum “Soil Cleanup Target Level” established by the Florida Dept. of Environmental Protection. Other substances contained within this “Waste Sludge” include Bentonite and Crystal Granite – Commonly used substances in the practice of drilling.

On May 6, 2009 Mr. Thomas Crowley of Integrated Drainage Solutions pled “no contest” to the charges, was found guilty of the charges and was sentenced to 12 months probation and was ordered to pay restitution and costs (Case #C9CF1507) to the Hammonds. That’s correct; Mastec’s Subcontractor was convicted of a felony. Though the subcontractor performed the actual dumping, Mastec was responsible not only to approve the site this material was to be disposed of on, but also contractually bound and paid for the proper and legal disposal/removal from the project site by Verizon. So how were they let off scot free while their sub-contractor was caught? Simple Mastec nor its employees actually did the dumping themselves. Miscarriage of Justice? Yes. They may not have done the deed themselves but they should be prosecuted for criminal negligence. So why aren’t their criminal charges against them? Sub-Contractors of Mastec Beware before you sign up with them…

Consider this, Mastec was PAID money to have the materials disposed of properly by Verizon, and the subcontractor Mastec hired Integrated Drainage Solutions, with the contractual agreement that Mastec was to approve the disposal location of the materials. Then why did this happen, and who is responsible for it? Maybe MasTec decided Why dispose of it properly that costs money – lets save that and put that back in our pockets, Shush don’t tell anyone. Is what could have happened? Whatever really happened behind the scenes we don’t know, but it is certain that Mastec is now crying “we had no idea” this was being done. This was done without our approval or consent, or even worse we had permission from the owner.” Which ever way you spin that arrow of blame on this one Mastec was either in on it or was NEGLIGENT. Question remains, Why were they let off again?

The Hammonds did file a civil suit, #412010CA009523, on October 29, 2010 in which the allegations of illegal dumping are made. Interestingly however, in researching this incident we came across another suit eerily similar to this one including some of the same defendants (Mastec et al) filed by Vincent Dunn on March 19, 2010, Case # 412010CA002652. We will be researching this case in depth and let you know if it too has allegation of illegal dumping but it clearly pertains to the same Verizon project that Mastec was working on. Wait for it…

Obviously illegal dumping occurred in this case for which Integrated Drainage Solutions was found guilty of felony. Did Mastec know about it, did they turn a blind eye to make a profit? As we stated earlier, we don’t know. What we do know is that this is not the first time innocent property owners have complained about it. A comment on our blog made by the Luna Neighborhood discussing the Globetec Project in Marathon, Florida had pointed out how Globetec/Mastec thug combine had dumped trash on vacant property and parked their equipment on it. The city had them clean it up only for them to do it again and then try to blame a subcontractor for the dumping. A dog can’t change its spots can it? Based on what we know of how MasTec and its mini-me thug corporations like Globetec Construction act, we can safely assume that they have a hand in it somewhere. It’s about time that they were brought to Justice…

So Mastec can piss hazardous materials all over innocent people’s property leaving with them a hazardous site, they can bury them in legal fees when they cry foul, and more than likely bankrupt the average Joe while laughing all the way to the bank? Sure looks like it, doesn’t it. Mastec hides behind vague excuses and claim they are in fact the wronged party. It seems that nobody let Mastec in on the small legal matter that under Florida State Law if a subcontractor damages another person or property in any way during the course of performing its duty the prime contractor is just as guilty and equally liable. What does that mean to folks like the Hammonds? It means get ready and hold on because the Mastec rollercoaster is going to take you for a terrible ride.

With MasTec’s record of never accepting blame for any of their criminal actions (what else would you expect from Mas Mobsters) it will be interesting to see who they will blame this time around. Will it be the neighbor’s dog, a farmer, and little green men from Mars, perhaps even Mantaee County in some way or other. Preposterous as it sounds Mastec seems to get away with everything doesn’t it. Until now at least.

Well NO MORE. Too many people have been taken for a ride and hurt or ruined by Mastec and its mini-me clones. It’s Time to put a STOP to this charade once and for all. We appeal to the authorities in FLORIDA to protect it’s Citizens especially it’s Senior Citizens from being criminally exploited by Mastec and its clones. This has gone Unnoticed by you for too long.

Since Innocent Civilians and Senior Citizens are being Exploited and Victimized, we also appeal to Jose Mas to do right by these Innocents. Come On Jose Mas, think about others for the first time in your life. You know for a fact that your subcontractor who pled no contest and was found guilty could be the source of the hazardous materials on the Hammonds property? If they were that would make you liable too. It’s not enough to just close your eyes and pretend you don’t know about the elephant in the room – A FELONY CONVICTION – hoping that this way it will all go away. It won’t.

Jose Mas, Come down off your twelfth story perch on the corner of Douglas Blvd and 8th street in Miami and do the right thing. Go see the damage you have caused the Hammonds and all the others you have inflicted financial terror on. You won’t, you choose to hide behind your vicious money hungry barbaric attorneys and go about your day and not give a care in the world to those lives you destroy. Well we care.

Just like you are watching us, and we know you are. We are watching you and will continue to do so until the authorities prosecute Mastec and all its mini-me companies for crimes against the Citizens of the United States and many other Countries like Spain around the world.

Here is some Food for thought; Verizon filed suit against Mastec on 6/30/08 in Manatee County for damages by them to Verizon property at 30th Ave West and Manatee County. The matter was settled less than 60 days later – the settlement is public record and more than likely contains a confidentiality clause. Less than 60 days, think about this, while Bat Construction, Custom Crushing, 3 Phase Construction, Hammonds and the list goes on have been waiting a lot longer than 30 days most years. What gives? Verizon is large client paying Mastec MILLIONS while those other companies are just small sub-contractors and Mastec their use their cookie cutter tactics of financial terrorism against them and get away with it. But, not for long.

We are watching you Mr. Jose Mas. Be Warned now.

Meanwhile, we strongly suggest to The Hammonds to get together with other Victims of Illegal Dumping, like themselves, innocent Property Owners (and there are many others out there) and bring a Class Action Suit against MasTec and Verizon. There are clear grounds for such an action. And County and State Officials must be pressed to take action as well. They must not be let off. We will follow this matter keenly and report here on the blog…

As always we Welcome your Comments, Feedback and Suggestions.

Please keep reading for more exposes…

Remember being forewarned is being forearmed…

We Invite Everyone to Research the facts presented in this Post specially the Cases we have pointed to. To begin, See; http://manateeclerk.com/(Hammond Case

In October 2007, MasTec acquired all the outstanding shares of capital stock of Three Phase Line Construction, Inc. (“Three Phase”) for a purchase price of $8.0 million in cash, subject to adjustments, and an earn-out based on future performance of the acquired entity through the fifth anniversary of the closing date. The Company may, at its option, issue shares of its common stock to the sellers of Three Phase in connection with the earn-out for this acquisition. Three Phase is involved in the construction and maintenance of transmission and distribution utility systems, substation and storm restoration in several northern states. The purchase price, including acquisition costs of approximately $0.1 million, has been allocated to the estimated fair value of acquired tangible assets of $3.3 million, assumed liabilities of $1.9 million, and identifiable intangible assets of $0.7 million, resulting in goodwill totaling $6.0 million. Three Phase’s earnings have been consolidated since the date of acquisition.

thats one way to cleverly screw shareholders out of there cash. spread the purchase price out over five years with a earn-out based on future performance.

DirecTV and Mastec have used deceptive business practices to gain an unfair business advantage against the very workers providing installation services. These practices include charging companies full retail value for equipment that was installed and activated in customers homes, deducting money from pay with no back up or documentation to support legitimacy, providing forged documents in an attempt to collect money from contractors for equipment not received by contractor. charging for phone lines that were allegedly not connected at time of install with no regard for phone service availability at time of install or customer requests and/or denial of this connection. back charging contractors for faulty equipment that was beyond the control of the contractor (DirecTV of course having full knowledge of the inadequacies of their manufacturers), back charging contractors for problems as a result of customer error, collecting a large percentage of ancillary work fees despite the fact that the contractor provides all of the materials for the installation. refusing to pay out final invoices and numerous other deceptive actions.

Legal action is in progress, and reports have been filed with the Federal Trade Commission, The BBB and other Government agencies. If you have been a victim of these unjust employers please respond to Redacted))), we would like to gather enough evidence to proceed with a class action lawsuit against DirecTV and Mastec (or other HSP companies following this example.)

National Labor Relations Board Reinstates Employees Terminated Statements About Mastec in Television News Broadcast.By: Patrick J. Kirby

In MasTec Advanced Technologies, the National Labor Relations Board (“NLRB”) recently reinstated with back-pay 26 employees who were fired after they went on a local news program and made statements about their employer in opposition to a company policy.

MasTec is a contractor which installs satellite television equipment for customers of DirecTV. In response to a request from DirecTV, MasTec instituted a policy which required their service technicians to plug customers’ satellite systems into phone lines in order for DirecTV to obtain information regarding customer viewing habits. The technicians were told to “do whatever it takes” to get the phone lines installed, and informed that unless they installed the connection in more than 50% of installations, the technicians would be subject to a $5 “charge back.”

In protest to this policy, 26 MasTec employees, dressed in their DirecTV uniforms, went on a local news broadcast where they stated they had been urged to “lie” to customers, and insinuated that the policy was costing customers money, which it was not. In response, MasTec terminated the 26 employees who appeared on the news broadcast.

The employees filed an action against MasTec claiming that the company had committed an “unfair labor practice” by firing them after they had engaged in a protected “concerted activity.” Under the National Labor Relations Act, federal law prohibits employers from taking any adverse action against employees who complain to other employees or third-parties about wages, hours, or other “terms and conditions of employment.”

MasTec argued that the technicians’ statements were not protected because they included false statements that were designed to hurt the financial interests of the company and that merely undermined the reputation of the company, and that such “disloyalty” to their employer took the technicians’ actions outside of the scope of protection. However, the NLRB rejected this argument, and ordered the reinstatement of the technicians with back-pay, stating that “[w]hile the technicians may have been aware that some consumers might cancel [their DirecTV] services after listening to the newscast, there is no evidence that they intended to inflict such harm . . . or that they acted recklessly without regard for the financial consequences to [DirecTV’s] business.” The NLRB went on to note that in order for an employee’s statements to fall outside the scope of protection, there must be evidence that the false statements made by the employee were either “malicious” or “intended” to cause harm to the employer.

Practical Tips: Many view the NLRB’s decision in this case as an unprecedented and unwarranted expansion of employee protection which makes it difficult for employers to terminate even the most disloyal employees. While the NLRB’s decision is currently under appeal, employers should tread lightly in taking any actions against an employee who expresses their opinions regarding the “terms and conditions” of their employment, as such statements are likely to fall under the protection of the National Labor Relations Act

you know Ken, these guys aren't like pike. We might just get a visit from well dressed men driving nice cars with Florida plates carring violin cases over this one. Mastec is a Billion dolar company whos Founding father had ties with the Cuban Mafia. Jorge Mas, Jose's father was involved in the bay of Pigs and was a respected man with the Miami Mafia. Sick Dude Jose is a well refined private school educated clone of his father.

I'm starting to re-think that whole cuban thing anyway scratch I'm starting to think Cuba was so damn corrupt back than and controlled by the mob that Castro didn't need much help convincing people to join the revolution. Maybe its time to normalize relations with Cuba. Sometimes I wonder if that was the real reason Kenedy was shot. Think about it... Who wanted Kenedy dead and who would gain from it. The CIA was working closely with the Mafia and the Bay of pigs fiasco blew up in their faces. An American President turned his back on both, by not commiting the military when they needed him the most he ended up dead. Fifty years later most involved are dead. The whole thing has become a political football with nobody risking the Cuban American vote in Florida. I'm starting to think fuckit, lets move on.

Rich powerfull people like the Mas family will always be feared and respected in the South Florida Community. The Middle class has been beaten up so bad there they'll lick the boots of the "Man" to feed their families. No doubt they'll be plenty of Mastec rat scabs to defend Jose Finger

Post  CanadianLineman Thu May 17, 2012 12:02 pm

Canada has always maintained reasonable relations with Cuba. It wasn't our Mob thrown out by Fidel. Under Batista the only employment young men could aspire to was card table dealer and girls - whores. BTW the Bay of Pigs was planned by the outgoing Eisenhower administration and Kennedy was only President for about 3 months when the invasion happened. Considering Jimmy Hoffa and the Kennedy administration fight with the Mob it has always been a serious consideration both JFK and Robert were eliminated by the remnants of the American Cosa Nostra.

Oh well, Nevada got Lost Wages out of it.

The more that comes out about Mastec the more I wonder if CBC did any research into what was actually being aired? There were enough safety violations involved in that program to have any jobsite shut down. The biggie - Lack of Training. Whipin

During our extensive research and investigation we have uncovered startling but irrefutable evidence linking the Mas family with the Miami Mafia. This is factual information.

Our investigations began by looking at the high-handed and illegal workings of Globetec Construction LLC, which led us to its Principals or Owners, MasTec. (Please see our Previous Posts Below for Details). We learnt that MasTec behaved in a far worse manner with people it dealt with than Globetec. Uncovering the people behind MasTec led us to the Mas clan or family, specifically, the family of Jorge Mas Canosa. They are MasTec, (as) its major shareholders and decision makers.

In our previous Posts we have written extensively about the various shenanigans and downright criminal actions of MasTec from the Sintel case to the Panama fiasco (see previous Posts below for more details). It is a continuing saga of broken promises, looting of company’s assets after taking them over, mafia type intimidation of workers, sub-contractors, clients and substandard work and corruption mixed with political influence bought through campaign contributions. We have uncovered the reasons and background of why they behave this way. Consider this…

The Mas family is MasTec for all practical purposes period. So when you deal with MasTec or its owned entities like Globetec Construction you deal with the Mas family. This is the story of the Mas family. It began with the colorful character Jorge Mas Canosa, a Cuban immigrant, and (now) deceased, and carried on by his sons in true mob like fashion.

This is what you should know before you decide to deal with them. Read on…

It has long been known by the media and people in the know about Mas family’s involvement with what is called the ‘Miami Mafia’. Their involvement with the Mafia began with Jorge Mas Canosa, father of the Mas brothers who control MasTec now. He formed MasTec Corporation and started the Mas corporate empire. It all began with him.

Jorge Mas Canosa was a businessman, contractor, lobbyist, politician, family man and yes a MOBSTER too, all in one. He was an immigrant from Cuba and in the forefront of the Anti-Castro movement. Many in the Cuban Exile Community have long since known and whispered about good ole Jorge’s terrorist activities. He was called a freedom fighter in the early days of his activities against Castro, but the flaw in this is that a freedom fighter fights for freedom and not for his or her own benefit and aspirations, something that doesn’t apply to Jorge Mas Canosa. He had many aspirations and goals for himself. It is said about him that he came to this country penniless from Cuba, worked odd jobs and through diligence, hard work and sheer ability to recognize and make good investments he became a self-made millionaire. He bought Church & Tower and formed MasTec. Commendable isn’t it. But is it really true? The answer is NO.

This is just a fairytale. The truth is more shocking. His rise was not all lollipops and gumdrops, as is claimed, but one which was lined with violence and blackmail. From riding roughshod over competitors, sub-contractors and bribing or threatening officials responsible for lucrative construction contracts, he built his empire on mobster like tactics and corruption. His freedom fighter career began when he enlisted for the service training for the Bay of Pigs campaign against Fidel Castro of Cuba. At that time the CIA and other Government Agencies in the United States were actively enlisting members of the exiled Cuban community to participate in this attempt to remove Castro. The attempt failed ultimately, but it brought Jorge Mas Canosa in contact with key CIA operatives and other key government officials, as well as the mercenaries being used by the CIA at that time. All these would enhance Jorge Mas’s illegal activities, bring him in touch with the political elite, and boost his image as a freedom fighter.

This image, just like his reputation for hard-work and intelligence, was completely false and misplaced. He didn’t have the balls or courage to participate actively in the removal of Fidel Castro himself, but he did have his ill-gotten wealth, which he used to finance both CIA led and independent or separate attempts to remove and kill Fidel Castro through paid mercenaries. He used his money to finance “freedom fighting” (terrorist) activities from the safety of his Miami mansion with its high walls and swaying palm trees. Like a mob boss ordering his gang troops to kill another mob boss, images of the ‘Godfather’ but without the glamour. He financed operations using mercenaries which bombed various targets in Cuba, including multiple attempts on Fidel Castro’s life. It is long suspected that Jorge Mas Canosa financed the ‘Luis Posadas” bombing of the Cuban Airliner in 1976 killing many innocent people. Mr. Mas Canosa was commonly known as the ‘Banker’ due to his funding of these terrorist bombings. Recently released documents have proven these allegations beyond any doubt. See;

http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB288/index.htm

Jorge Mas Canosa’s tenacity and talent was applied not only to his ‘freedom fighter’ image and political aspirations but also to his business aspirations. Throughout the 1970’s and early 1980’s he ruled the South Florida Construction Industry as contractor supreme through bribery, coercion and political connections. As the tide turned in 1990’s in South Florida for the Construction industry, so did Mr. Mas Canosa’s company. It turned into “MasTec”. What is not generally known is that at the time MasTec was formed, its predecessor Church & Tower had multiple lawsuits pending against it by Municipal and State Entities for various violations and issues. MasTec was to be the cleaner version of Church & Tower. A clean slate, all smoke and mirrors, so to speak to meet the requirements of changing times and new regulations.

At the time of MasTec’s formation, and also the basis for it, was the adoption of ordinances by municipalities, State Government Entities, other governmental organizations, utilities and districts which banned the award of new contracts to all contractors who were in litigation against them and or had pending issues against them by these entities. This would have rendered Church & Tower ineligible for all new contracts by most of these entities since it was in litigation against them and had multiple pending issues against it. So Jorge Mas Canosa figured out a way to stack the deck in his favor by forming MasTec.

They didn’t stop there and it took it a step further by forming smaller entities like Globetec Construction LLC. This helped them in two ways. It hid them from being exposed since the smaller companies were doing the bidding and performing the work on the one hand and made them eligible to bid for contracts meant for smaller contractors – which they were not clearly – on the other. This practice and regulations were being adopted by many local municipalities to encourage small and minority owned businesses. (See our previous Posts below for more details on this).

Mr. Mas Canosa’s terrorist talents were now being applied to his business activities. One form of it is of a monopolistic nature, applied by forming or buying many small entities under MasTec or associated with it, or even separately owned by a Mas family member through which they are able to monopolize the bidding process by bidding separately using their own companies and entities to strangle all competition to them. Another form of this financial terrorism, very aptly and ruthlessly applied by MasTec, is suing smaller companies, entities and individuals into BANKRUPTCY due to litigation costs. This very effectively eliminates competitors, vendors and subcontractors or people with legitimate grievances against them like Steve McCammond. (For more on this see previous Posts and upcoming Post on Steve McCammond’s case). This new tactic of litigating into bankruptcy is not the work of Jorge Mas Canosa, who believed in more direct and violent action, but of his son’s Jorge Mas and Jose Mas, who are carrying on his legacy in a more subtle though just as ruthless manner.

Jorge Mas Canosa’s mobster like image and reputation extended to another area as well, in his handling of the Media. He was so powerful and his stranglehold was so tight that he was able to silence the Miami Media from exposing the truth about him. See;

http://www.nytimes.com/1992/02/11/opinion/topics-of-the-times-targets-in-miami. html?ref=jorgemascanosa

And these revealing headlines, ‘Jorge Mas Canosa strong arming the Miami Herald by intimidation, threats and inciting violence’ – See Page 36 – CANF vs. Miami Herald;

http://etd.lsu.edu/docs/available/etd-1114101-125240/ unrestricted / Cobas_thesis.pdf

Another more serious brush with the media for Jorge Mas Canosa came in 1994, when The Republic published an article by Anne Louise Bardach about Jorge Mas Canosa’s Mafia Links and style. This article also ran in other major newspapers around the country such as LA Times, New York Times, Miami Herald, Orlando Sentinel to name a few. The article was the same in all of these newspapers except for one difference, the headline. The Republic changed the original headline from ‘Our man in Miami’ to ‘Clinton’s Miami Mobster’. See,

http://www.bardachreports.com/articles/oa_19941003.html

Mr. Mas brought suit against The Republic and Anne Louise Bardach for slander because he was called a ‘Mobster’. Interestingly, the suit didn’t question the content of the article just the Headline. The case was settled by The Republic apologizing for the term Mobster and a donation to Mr. Mas’s foundation for $100,000. See;

http://www.nytimes.com/1996/09/17/us/new-republic-and-cuban-agree-to- settle- libel-lawsuit.html

Miss Bardach paid nothing, had no retraction because the content of her article was not questioned or sued by Mr. Mas, only the insult of being called a Mobster. See (in his words from the deposition of this case Pg.1559 lines 1-11, Pg. 1560 lines 23-25, and Pg. 1561 lines 1-5);

http://www.latinamericanstudies.org/exile/jorge-mas-deposition-1 .pdf
The media organizations were repeatedly taken or threatened by suits against them to ensure their silence. Mr. Mas effectively put a muzzle on the media specially the Miami Media by these and other more direct methods.

In 1998, a year after the death of Mr. Jorge Mas Canosa, his son’s and the exile group which Mr. Mas Senior had headed during his lifetime CANF took offence at New York Times publishing of Don Van Natta’s article which printed “allegations linking the group’s founder to a bombing campaign in Cuba last year aimed at toppling Fidel Castro. They announced they would sue the New York Times for sullying the name of Jorge Mas Canosa by calling him a mobster. See;

http://www.nytimes.com/1998/07/17/world/cuban-exile-group-s-leaders-plan-a-lawsuit-against-the-times.html?ref=jorgemascanosa

In August of 1998, a subsequent article about this story was published in the New York Times. See;

http://www.nytimes.com/1998/08/04/world/cuban-exile-says-he-lied-to-times-about-financial-support.html?ref=jorgemascanosa

The New York Times did not print a retraction and stuck by the story.

After the threat by Mr. Jorge Mas Canosa’s sons and the CANF about suing the New York Times, nothing actually came of it and they did not carry the threat through. The question is Why? After the suit against The Republic why wasn’t a suit filed against The New York Times? Is it because the facts would have been proven in court against Jorge Mas Canosa? Or is it because The New York Times was not about to be cowed down by the Miami Mafioso and his sons and lieutenants?

Perhaps both, But one point is clear Anne Louise Bardach and others got it right about Jorge Mas Canosa and the Mas family. We urge her and the media in general to follow up on these stories and stop Jorge Mas Canosa’s sons Jorge Mas and Jose Mas from inflicting more terror and mafia like tactics in the business world. It is time this Mafia Gang was brought to Justice.

The press has covered various stories about or related to Jorge Mas Canosa and his family over the years. Despite the Mas family’s Mafia like style behavior and litigation threats the media has uncovered enough evidence to prove beyond any doubt that Jorge Mas Canosa was a Mobster. His sons Jorge Mas – indicted by Spanish Courts in the Sintel plunder case – and Jose Mas the Mas family’s new Godfather are following in his footsteps, in a more subtle but just as ruthless manner. The media has to take another look and expose these crooks and vicious mobsters as they have done for the Senior Mas. The Mas family, are they the new Miami Mafia; Mas Mobsters?

Where are the FBI, SEC and the Attorney Generals???

The story of Jorge Mas Canosa, actively reported by the Press, has another chapter which is testimony to his avarice, greed, and to the fact that he took no prisoners and had no respect for his own family over his financial interests – A true third class Mobster – Mas Mobster. This story involves his own brother Ricardo Mas Canosa, who stood by his brother’s side during the building of his political and professional (Mobster) career.

Ricardo Mas Canosa was the comptroller of his brother’s company ‘Church & Tower’ during 1972-1985, a trusted and loyal member of the Mas clan and Jorge Mas Canosa’s confidante. Several versions of the following have been rumored; the predominant version is; Ricardo was rewarded by being accused of stealing from his own brother among other charges. In fact, Jorge Mas Canosa put this accusation in writing to Southern Bell to whom he owed money, saying that his brother had stolen the funds since he was the comptroller and trusted member of the Mas (Mob) family. Ricardo Mas Canosa, being a Mas himself, and no fool, filed a liability suit against his brother which he won. The court awarded him $ 1.2 million Dollars from his brother Jorge Mas Canosa.

However, the facts as published speak for themselves.

The real story behind these events is not fully known, but it is stated that these series of events were a stage managed conspiracy, by Jorge Mas Canosa, to defraud Southern Bell on the one hand and cover up another illicit payment in Panama on the other.

Jorge Mas Canosa, it is said and published, was funding Operations in Panama as well as Cuba, and on one occasion had to deliver $50,000 to secure the release of Mr. Posada (of Cuban plane bombing fame) being held in Panama. Brother Ricardo was given the assignment to pay and secure Posada’s release. The New York Times had access to a sworn statement which they published along with the story. We quote:

“Ricardo Mas was the comptroller of his brother’s company, Church & Tower, from 1972 to 1985. He said that at his brother Jorge’s instruction he deposited a check in one of the company’s Panamanian accounts and returned with cash.”

”He[ Jorge] said that he needed me to go down and bring back $50,000, that it would be used to get Luis Posada Carriles out of jail, that Carriles wanted out, that he might start talking,” Ricardo Mas testified. ”The guy, I guess, was breaking down. They had to get him out of jail.”

Other stories in the media and the internet sources are included below. See;

Ricardo Mas files suit alleging;

“The charming, warm, generous, democratic Jorge Mas that U.S. and foreign heads of state knew, the immigrant success story incarnate, had a darker side. He became impatient to the extreme when lesser beings disobeyed or, worse, disrespected him. In 1985, his younger brother Ricardo left Jorge’s business venture. The older Mas claimed the younger had taken money from Church and Tower and deposited it in his own retirement fund. The younger Mas challenged Jorge about who rightfully should control the money. Mas came to Ricardo’s house, beat the upstart, and threw him through a plate glass window. A judge subsequently awarded Ricardo $245,000 for breach of contract.”

http://www.latinamericanstudies.org/exile/canosa.htm

And,

1985, Ricardo Mas, once an employee of his older brother, filed suit against Mas charging that he had beat him up and then stolen his 1983 Oldsmobile. The case was resolved when Mas agreed to pay his sibling $245,000 in an out-of-court settlement.

http://www.bardachreports.com/articles/oa_19941003.html

In October, 1990, Mas was back in court accused of libeling and depriving Ricardo of contracting work with Southern Bell by writing two letters accusing him of extortion and fraud. Ricardo also alleged that Mas had bribed and cheated his way to the top, in his takeover of Church and Towers, the primary contracting company for Southern Bell in Florida. Mas was found guilty and ordered to pay $1.2 million to his brother;

http://www.bardachreports.com/articles/oa_ 19941003.html

Mas subsequently appealed that ruling only to have it dismissed by the superior court.

It is rumored that Ricardo was made the fall guy to cover up for his brother Jorge Mas Canosa. Other rumors say it was a set-up. Other than the information we have uncovered and quoted from the Press mainly and our investigations we don’t really know what happened between Ricardo and Jorge the Senior feuding Mas brothers.

But two things are clearly revealed here. One that ruthless tactics, terrorism, and mafia like style solutions were employed by Jorge Mas Canosa during his lifetime, and now are applied in business by his sons Jorge Mas and Jose Mas which cost people their lives, by cheating them out of their livelihoods and their future. MasTec and its minions and mini-me’s like Globetec Construction LLC are playing havoc with people’s lives. They will continue to do so till they are stopped.

Jorge Mas Canosa’s legacy carried on by his sons is proof positive that they are all Mobsters – Mas Mobsters.

In true Mobster fashion it will be interesting to see when the two Mas Mobster Brothers, Jorge and Jose, turn on each other, And even more interesting to see who wins.

Meanwhile, innocent people are the losers.

The Second thing revealed here is that the media has to get on the ball again to expose these people so the authorities can finally wake up and take action before more innocents are victimized by the Mas Mobsters. People like Anne Louise Bardach and others with integrity in the media must stand up and be counted.

We reach out to you Anne Louise Bardach and members of the media, here’s a Prize winning story for you. Get after it.

As far as the new Mas Mobsters brothers are concerned, they take offense at the term ‘Mobster. But we ask which is worse ‘Mobster’ or ‘Terrorist’ because to Jorge Mas Canosa both apply equally. And, while death may have robbed the victims of Jorge Mas Canosa, of seeing justice catching up with him, it is not too late for the Mas Mobster brothers, it is only a matter of time before the law catches up with them…..

Isn’t it about time? We let you be the judge….

The Spanish connection
Jorge Mas Canosa and the fall of Sintel: a story of corruption, privatisation, and anti-Cuban terrorism.

In 1996, the fate of Sistemas e Instalaciones de Telecomunicacion, S.A. (Sintel) a subsidiary of Telefonica, the Spanish state-run telecommunications monopoly, crossed paths with Jorge Mas Canosa. Canosa's firm Mastec International, a subsidiary of Mastec Inc., acquired Sintel for $39.5 million.

At the time of this privatisation, Sintel was the strongest company in its sector. By 1999, the company had become bankrupt and was sold for 2 euros. 1800 Spanish workers were left on the streets.

Economics professor Juan Torres López described the scenario as “a fraud to democracy, allowed by the political class.” Sintel employees soon came to learn who Jorge Mas Canosa was, and understood that their fight would be long and difficult.

The CIA Cubans

Back in 1960, the young anti-communist dissident Jorge Mas Canosa, who was the leader of the clandestine Movimiento Democrata Cristiano in Oriente, Cuba, left the island as an emigre to the United States. By 1963, Jorge together with other Bay of Pigs veterans was invited by the CIA to an intelligence training course at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he became close friends with one Luis Posada Carrilles.

As revealed in the New York Times following the release of CIA documents under the Freedom of Information Act, a series of July 1965 cablegrams between Posada and Mas Canosa disclosed that ''Jorge Mas Canosa of RECE (Cuban Representation in Exile) had paid an assassin $5,000 to cover expenses of a demolition operation in Mexico”. Another document also revealed that Mas Canosa ''had in his possession 125 lbs. of Pentol to be placed as charges…” and ''proposed to demolitions expert he travel to Spain and Mexico” to “place bombs in Communist installations in those countries.''

In 1971, Mas Canosa bought Church & Tower, an underground utility construction firm in Miami; twenty-three years later, Church & Tower merged with its biggest competitor, Birnup & Sims, and became MasTec. Inc.

By 1974, as FBI documents have revealed, Jorge Mas Canosa coordinated with Julio Durán, Chilean ambassador in the United Nations, a deal with Chile (at that time under the regime of General Pinochet) that offered paramilitary training to Cuban exiles, together with passports and necessary support to a certain Orlando Bosh for terrorist activity outside of Chile.

On October 6th, 1976, an Air Cubana jetliner with 73 people aboard was blown out of the sky. Orlando Bosh and Luis Posada Carrilles were arrested and served a jail sentence in Venezuela. Mas Canosa used his brother Ricardo to help Posada escape: “he [Mas Canosa] said that he needed me to go down and bring back $50,000, that it would be used to get Luis Posada Carriles out of jail.”

In 1980, just months after the U.S. election which put Ronald Reagan in power, the Cuban American National Foundation (CANF) was formed. U.S. National Security Council employee Richard Allen invited Mas Canosa to become president of the foundation’s board. CANF become part of Reagan’s public diplomacy program, supporting the contras in Nicaragua, supporting rebels in Angola, helping to repeal the Clark amendment, building support for the Grenada invasion, and assisting President Reagan to pass his Caribbean Basin Tax Plan. By 1988, CANF had received $390,000 in federal funds via the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).

Reagan had taken a liking to CANF and soon enough Radio Martí, the U.S. government radio station beamed at Cuba, with an editorial board responding directly to the White House, was created. Reagan named Ernesto Betancourt, a member of the CANF speakers bureau, as its director. Then Carlos Benitez from the CANF board was invited to join the Republican Finance Committee, and a $1.7 million State Department contract was awarded to CANF, to make recommendations to the Immigration and Naturalization Service on whether to provide visas to Cubans living outside of Cuba and wanting to be relocated in the United States.

By this time Mas Canosa had become so influential in the United States that Wayne Smith, who headed the U.S. Interest Section in Havana during the Carter administration said, "had it not been for Jorge Mas Canosa, we probably would have had normal relations with Cuba."

From Madrid to Miami

In 1995, members of the CANF travelled to Spain and met with the right wing political party Partido Popular (PP) in their headquarters in Madrid. PP leader José María Aznar, Guillermo Gortázar, Jorge Mas Canosa and José Antonio “Toñín” Llama were present.

In November of that year, Jose Maria Aznar travelled to Miami where he lunched with CANF executives; he also flew to El Salvador and Costa Rica with Jorge Mas Santos on Mas Canosa’s plane.

Claiming that Aznar has received funding for his electoral campaign during the trip, the leader of the political party Nueva izquierda, Diego López Garrido, and other leaders on the left requested a “public clarification” from the PP, but the request was ignored. Luis Yañez, representative of the Partido Socialista Obrero Español (PSOE), described Mas Canosa as a “Florida Gangster” who had “financed certain aspects of the Partido Popular.”

In 1996, Mas Canosa directed Llama to organize the creation of “Fundación Hispano-Cubana”, the CANF subsidiary in Spain. Guillermo Gortázar Echeverría, a member of the national executive committee of the Partido Popular (Aznar’s political party), was elected Secretary General. The invitations for the launch were handed out at the headquarters of the PP. Mas Canosa was present at the presentation and later that year, was also present at the PP congress.

That same year, José Antonio “Toñín” Llama admitted to the Miami Herald that he and other members of the CANF hierarchy had acquired “a freight helicopter, 10 ultra-light remote control aircraft, seven vessels and a large volume of explosive material with the explicit objective of acts of terrorism.”

Indifferent to all these revelations of terrorist activity and corruption amongst Mas Canosa and his friends, both Felipe Gonzalez, who was running a provisional government in Spain, and Cándido Velázquez, running Telefónica, agreed on the sale of Sintel to Mas Canosa’s Mastec International. The deal was closed when, after the Partido Popular won the Spanish general election, José María Aznar became Spain’s Prime Minister and named Juan Villalonga as chairman and CEO of Telefónica.

At the time of its sale to Mastec International, Sintel was a company which had 21 affiliates in the world and around 5000 employees, 1800 of them in Spain. Telefónica had just invested more than 90 million to stabilize the company, and Sintel had future contract guarantees of around 450 million euros. The day the acquisition was announced, Mastec stock went up 400% on Wall Street. A fact, which didn’t stop Telefónica spokesman Alberto Martinez from claiming later that "Sintel didn't have a very bright future in our hands… so we decided to sell it at a very cheap price."

In 1997, Jorge Mas Canosa died and his sons Jorge Mas Santos and Juan Carlos Mas Santos took over the running of Mastec. Ten years later, after an arduous legal and political fight by the ex-workers of Sintel, which has involved three different judges, (Ruiz de Polanco, Baltasar Garzón and now Pedraz) the financial loss of Sintel is estimated at 268,839,154.87 euros, and the judge believes that Sintel was acquired by the Mas Canosa family to “dismantle it for their profit.”

Jorge Mas Santos says his company tried to diversify Sintel, and accuses Telefónica of violating the sale terms by cancelling its orders when Sintel "was heavily dependent on Telefónica.” The ex-workers are still demanding justice and proclaiming “suspicion” of the existence of “pressures at the highest political and financial levels.”

The workers' struggle

While the workers of Sintel have spent the last eleven years fighting for their rights, Ricardo Pascoe, who was Mexican Ambassador in Cuba from 2000 to 2002, says that during that time the Mas Canosa family financed the PP campaign of 2000, a fact which according to him “was known by numerous government officials in the U.S. and diplomats in Europe.”

Also in 2001, Aznar together with Josep Piqué, Spain’s Minister for foreign Relations, invited the King and Queen of Spain to Miami where they met at the Vizcaya Mansion with Jorge Más Santos, president of CANF Pepe Hernández, and José Antonio Llamas, former director on the executive board of the CANF.

It is shameful that as many hundreds of Spanish families were struggling with the harsh realities of unemployment, the Spanish monarchy and the government were meeting with the person who, as judge Pedraz believes, was responsible for the loss of those 1800 jobs. It seems even more shameful that Spain would subsidize the local branch of the CANF (an organization with direct links to terrorist activity) while its chairman, Jorge Mas Santos is yet to respond to the employees of Sintel, whose lives were shattered by the lofty dreams of dissident Cuban exiles. Since 2004, the autonomous community of Madrid has awarded over 380,000 euros in grants to the 'Fundación Hispano Cubana'.

In a phone conversation I held with Adolfo Jimenez, spokesperson for the Sintel Workers Association, I was told: “Sintel is the biggest fraud in the history of Spanish democracy, Felipe Gonzalez, Jose María Aznar and Rodriguez Zapatero are all interested in silencing us.” He added, “unless a solution is agreed upon soon, the whole world is going to hear us during the next Spanish elections.”

One could speculate for days about why Sintel was sold and the reasons why Spain’s leaders have such close relationships with the Mas Canosa family, their company and the CANF; but what remains is the continuing 'silenced' struggle of the Sintel employees. Their faith lies in each other and the hope that their struggle will serve, at least, to scare the corrupt institutions which decided their fate, and hold the fate of many others in their hands.

Does this criminal, Jorge Mas Canosa, sound similar to the one who wants to be the President of the USA, Mitt Romney?? What is the matter with our society that we allow corporate pirates to operate and be acceptable, no less run, our governments??

These people have absolutely no conscience, let alone a social conscience, what so ever. They are corporate psychopaths who put ten of thousands of people, including children, into severe poverty. Perhaps the "occupy" groups had a point after all.

your absolutly correct Ken. What has happened to us? For over 30 years now the culture of the corporate world has shifted towards profit above all else. Multi-national corporations now controll the media and influence the political machine. Corporate Greed has poisened free market capitalism. the fortune 500 companies have outsorced our manufacturing base exploiting cheep labor in third world countries all over the globe.
The sad part is most folks are too busy with thier personal lives to realize whats happening. The political fight in Wisconsin is a perfect example. I saw a poll yesterday where 37% of union housholds support Gov. Walker No Its like sheep being led to slaughter. As long as there is breath in my lungs I will expose thugs like Mastec who aquire well preforming companies and loot and plunder them into bankruptcy.

Two words if your an American - Ronnie Raygun

if British - Maggie Thatcher

if Canadian - Lyin' Brian

If from British Columbia - Minni Whack (Bill Bennett)

Also spelled - Adam Smith Economics - ultra right wing the rich get richer economics.

Why would anyone in the latter part of the 20th Century follow an economist from the 1770s?? We need a whole new direction for our long term economics thinking. What was started in the 1980s and still is happening today just is not working. In Canada as many as 20% of the children attending school did not eat breakfast because of household commitments where both parents work in low wage jobs that start too early for the school kids. Our "children living in poverty" is increasing year by year and food banks long ago became an expected necessity rather than the stopgap measure they were intended to be.

Meanwhile Corporate Pirates get richer all the time paying less and less of the tax burden. Corporations pay less to support society as well - those that still do business in our countries. And we are all expected to ecpect a little less in wage increases. Go figure.

Post  CanadianLineman Sat May 19, 2012 12:15 pm

We have our own troubles with union busting politicians here - big problems. As well they are hemorrhaging money while cutting programs that are essential to those who need help - the old, infirm, and we have the largest child poverty in the country. Oh yes and the highest fuel taxes on the continent. This government here is in a major fight with labour and have been trying to strip the teachers of rights and wages for the last decade. Against a court order they have ordered the teachers back to work after violating their human rights and now have taken the teachers union to the LRB because the teachers refuse to do "extracurricular activities" - after school activities like class trips, after school supervision of playgrounds and coaching school sports - all unpaid volunteer time.

Can you believe these teachers refusing to volunteer their time!!???! Now I have to pay for a babysitter because I'm working till 5:00!!!! How are my kids going to get an education if they don't go on that 10 trip to the Capital!! It's educational!!! How dare they not take my kids even through they aren't being paid - so what - I had a trip planned to Hawaii for those 10 days!!!
