What can you enlighten me on with phase shift angle? How much have you dabbled in it throughout your career?

I hope danny can chime in here but try reading this PDF for starters, its a bit dry and complicated but read it a couple times and let some of this stuff sink in. I had to read it a few times myself.

Calling wtdoor67 Empty Phase angle shift?

To tell you the truth, you guys are plumb over my head on some of this stuff. A considerable part of my knowledge is just rote. If you happen to hit something I know about, I'll jump in.

I asked a couple of folks about the phase shift angle and it was beyond them. I would like to hear what you had to say about a wye-delta bank with no return on the neutral even if the load isn't balanced for refresher.

well with a wyedelta ratio bank the neutral is open. (wye primary delta secondary). So your right there is no return on the neutral.

To really wrap your head around the 30 degree phase angle shift, read my thread in electrical theory. That whole phase angle shift is just how the math works out.. Take a wye vector and superimpose a equall Laterall Triangle on it..... Notice how if you center it perfectly all three legs of the wye are 30 degree's off from the delta. Its geometry thats all. In a wye your working voltage is derived from a phase to neutral .... In a delta its always phase to phase. Thats why it looks like a equall lateral triangle.

Calling wtdoor67 Empty Wye/Delta etc.

I believe a wye/delta with no return on the neutral would be balanced.
