Am I to old
Hello to everyone at linemantoolbox. I am very new to this forum. I am 38 years old. Been in building construction for seventeen years. Five years ago I earned my lineman degree. I enjoyed the whole experience. In my opinion I excelled in all subjects that were presented before me. It did not come very easy at times. I really did work my butt off to earn all most perfect grades. So I get out of school did a one month internship at the local cooperative which I loved. The guys there were awesome. Even in one month I was impressed with what they taught me. When it was over my search for line work began. I worked to find a job just like I have worked for everything my whole life. The recession had just kicked in and along with that I had a family crisis which I will not get into. Before I new it the years had gone by so fast.
I guess my question is. Am I to old? Can you teach a older dog new tricks?

First off, welcome to the forum. 38 is not too old to get started. The fact that you got your lineman degree is a big plus. Do you have a CDL? That's another huge factor. Your internship at the local coop also helps. The big question is... Are you willing to re-locate? There are plenty of jobs out there for lineman. depending on your skill level you will most likely start out as an apprentice. The larger utilities and big contractors will pay more than the local coop. Do a Google search for lineman jobs and you'll see what I mean. Good luck and keep us posted Spudwrench.

I do have my Class A CDL. At one time I had my CPR certificate but I think it is expired. Would that be a issue? By the way thank you both for your words of encouragement they were very much appreciated and good for morale.

perfect... if your willing to re-locate it should be no problem getting in the door someplace. The CPR certificate can be obtained through your future employer.spudwrench1975 wrote:I do have my Class A CDL. At one time I had my CPR certificate but I think it is expired. Would that be a issue?
