No news from the outside world lately? How are things in the NE USofA Groove, I've been hearing some horror stories, you get hit by the storms?
And just to toot my own horn a little here, just had my first day of work today, basic orientation training all this week. Workplace conduct, ladders, confined spaces, WHMIS etcetera etcetera. Trip to the pole yard on friday hopefully they'll let me try climbing a pole or two. Then next monday I start my shifts working in the garage, stoked!

the forum has been scary quiet the last month or so. The storms did some damage around here. Our service territory was fine but Utilities around the NorthEast got hammered. We've got crews working out of town , They'll probebly be gone all week. One Million customers still out.
I've been kinda busy settleing down into the forman job. Its quite a change from working mostly trouble back to construction. I'm kinda rusty but its comming back. Great news on your job BC Boy. Its time to shine. I'm certain this will open the door to Linework Smile

Good luck BC, giv'em hell!

Unfortunately I am on an OH to URD conversion right now. Trenching, laying conduit! (YAWN) Puking Smiley

Not alot to post about. Summer is here in the desert too, so working lots and worn out at the end of the day.

Don't give up on the site, it will succeed! By keeping out the day to day B.S. facebook type crap off of this forum, things might seem a little slow but we all are still around!!

Not sure what utility our crews are working for but what they said is they dont isolate and restore! They open up at the station feeder get-away ,, Ground,,, repair and have everything inspected before grounds are removed and feeder restored.

wow,, they must work with some real nitt witts at that utility.

During the storm up here near Seattle in January, we picked a circuit, told ops who we were and got control of it until it was all clear. Actually we were assigned to a sub and then picked a circuit, out of 4, We ended up doing them all, cutting trees off and isolating wire down, picking up "cold load" and waiting the apropreate amount of time to close in the downstream reclosers. Was down there for 10 days. Just me and another t-man. Wore him out after 7 days and picked up another for the last 3. We paired up at night and worked alone during the day. After about 3 days of tagging and giving to crews, we started puting up small wire, together, and left the big stuff to the crews. The last 2 days was putting up services and going to places where they said was out and found them some already done. Went to a hotel everynight for 3 or 4 hours, ate breakfast and worked another 20. It was quite fun. After about 3 days it was a piece of cake. Pure adrenline, nothing like it!

We just sent another crew from our barn to michican Today. I'm last on the out of town list so I'll hold the fort down for awhile. New chief's get put last on the list. Thats OK... my time will come. I haven't been out of town in over 6 years and I'm not really sure I miss it all that much.

Cowboy wildleg is saying he's making bookoo bucks in that mess. I'm betting that with my week of call this week I'll end up doing just as well based on being in a different tax bracket and I get to sleep in my own bed in more favorable conditions. Very Happy

But PSE makes a point the adrenaline rush....come get high.....lineman high!!!!

Had my touch of fun last night with a car hit pole by a drunk driver. Car upside down with the roof in the shape of a bowl filled with blood. It was the most gawd awful smell mixed with vomit and alcohol. Prior to that some fireworks set a house on fire and here's my happy ass up the pole at 1 am cutting the wire down.

BUT I AIN'T GOT NO CHIGGERS

Sometimes staying back and keeping the home fires burning has to be done, but Michigan wouldn’t be a bad place to storm. What I am hearing is that lots of the utilities are playing the El-Cheepo trick by delivering your lunch and evening meal. It pisses me off that they want to treat a lineman like a dog but then to feed a lineman like a dog. Don’t they realize that when a man has been on his feet for long hours; you want to sit at a table and eat instead of leaning on the rear of a bucket truck, after being in the heat you want to go eat in an air conditioned restaurant and after listening to customer after customer all day you need to get away from the scene for a few minutes to regroup your mind.

During the storm here, when I went to Seattle for 10 days, they (PSE) had a tent set up, like a big top circus tent, with heaters blowing, servers serving, and tables and chairs in this huge Boeing parking lot to feed the troops, anyone and everyone. The servers were bundled up in cold weather gear, complete with scarves and hats. The place was a ghost town. We ate there once and decided to never go back and went to restaurants for our dinners. While we were there, we saw a bunch of crew trucks about 100 yards away and no one around. We found out they went to restaurants too. We also saw guys come in, get food and sit in their trucks and eat. It was a joke, but you gotta think they meant well, they just don't get it. No one that ain't a lineman gets it. Some try, and those are the ones that tell you they respect you and try to help. All the rest just get in the way and slow you down.

Perhaps we need to recruit reppy007. He does 85% 0f the posting elsewhere. Sad Makes that site look like it's a house afire.

I have been so busy with my BLOG, my new forum and trying to vistit all tha damn doctors I just don't have time for much else.

Oh, it has finally stopped raining - 6 Effen months of below normal temp rain and cloud. June had less sun shine, more rain and record below normal temperatures we had to put parkas on our peas and the tomatoes all walked into the house. Last 4 days have beed brigh and sunny but not overly warm. Maybe next week.

I guess that means you've never stayed in a tent or a semi trailer with 3 high bunk beds yet. Not only do they feed you, treat you, like a dog......now they put you up in kennels like a dog. Geting chisled on the double time, missing hours on your check. Last September on Hurricane Irene.....the contractor I was working for paid no Lineco or NEAP. They even stole our vacation money that showed as deductions on our check. And they wonder why a guy takes a drink from time to time.

Well, I'm here!! Thought I recognized you when I met you at the service center the other day. Heard we finshed up the storm outages today . My crew hot sticked a set of switches in the 34.5kv for where ya'll are going to put up the new building. Tomorrow we'll be framing and setting the new poles for the redirect. Your boss must like the way we roll. Easiet storm money I've made in awhile. How long are they planning to keep us here??

If anyone ever tried to put me up in a tent or a trailer during storm duty, I'd drag up in a heartbeat, well I'd give them a chance to make it good and then drag if nothing happened. It's a hotel for 4 or 5 hours and then a nice breakfast just before daylight, work til dark, eat dinner, then a few more hours til midnight or one am and then all over again. I can do 20's for quite a while. We get paid from our company and there is never any descrepincies. Then again, I've never been sent out of our own service territory, a nine county boomer! lol...I even had then do my laundry and it showed up in my room and the company paid for it. I never expected to be away for 10 days and only took 2 jeans and 2 shirts and socks and shorts, had to go to Kmart and buy new shorts. They look at you funny when you do that!
