Post  johnbellamy on Fri Mar 16, 2012 8:41 am

Any of you guys know any storys of so called JL's blowin up thumpers?

How much damage was done......?

What were the details of the accident....?

What does a thumper cost, I know there are different manufactures, just a price to replace one?

I know I can look it up, just a off hand price if you have ever purchased one, thanks.........

Mr. Bellamy,

I need the name brand and model of the machine you're talking about. I personally have never heard or read of such a thing so I have many questions.

Can you give out details of the accident/near miss?

The more info you can give the better.

I think I heard 28 K for the last one I ever experienced. I don't remember the brand but it wasn't a VON. It was one you can run the line on the screen and it would tell you where the bad spot was. Worked pretty slickl.

Just put in for a replacement of our VON with a HDW Electronics 25kV, the whole enchilada $29k. Before I came here, I heard that in the past a thumper was destroyed.

From what I recollect to what happened is they were thumping a stretch of direct buried cable with the other two phases hot. When it thumped it caused the other hot phases to fault also and lit the machine up. Luckily nobody was injured...I don't think the operator was at the machine when it did, so now whenever we thump we'll kill out the other phases.

A Von or HGW.......

A unit that is installed in a van, not a small portable one.

The accident was the crew foreman and JL left the thumper hooked up after they made repairs, they hi potted the cable as per procedure to test cable and new splice. Then proceeded to go close in the dip fuse laughing .

Don't think much was made of the inccident, I think they just got a letter in their file ...... Butt Kisser

You know how that goes, nobody was injured so that is a plus, and they wonder why they want to conrtact the work out Banging head against .

$30,000, thats funny........

Thanks for the input.
